1. กระต่ายกับเต่า (The Hare and The Tortoise)

ในป่าแห่งหนึ่ง กระต่ายตัวหนึ่งชอบอวดโอ้ตัวเองว่าวิ่งเร็วกว่าใครๆ ในป่า เมื่อมันเห็นเต่าเดินช้าต้วมเตี้ยมผ่านมามันจึงหัวเราะเยาะเย้ยเจ้าเต่า เต่ารู้สึกไม่พอใจจึงท้ากระต่ายให้มาวิ่งแข่งกัน เมื่อการแข่งขันเริ่มขึ้น กระต่ายก็ว่งนำหน้าเจ้าเต่าไปไกล แต่พอถึงครึ่งทางกระต่ายกลับชะล่าใจแวะนอนพักใต้ต้นไม้ใหญ่และเพลอหลับไปนานมาก ขณะที่เจ้าเต่าค่อยๆ เดินไปเรื่อยๆ โดยไม่ได้หยุดพักเลย เมื่อกระต่ายตื่นขึ้นมาก็ตกใจรีบวิ่งไปที่เส้นชัย แต่ก็สายเกินไปเพราะเจ้าเต่าเป็นผู้ชนะ ยืนรออยู่ที่เส้นชัยแล้ว

เรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า : ความประมาทเป็นต้นเหตุของความพ่ายแพ้

Once in the forest, there was a hare who boasted of himself being the fastest runner than anyone else. He laughed at a tortoise when he saw that the tortoise walked very slow. The tortoise was angry to hear that, so he challenged the hare to run the race.
The hare started running very fast and led the tortoise out very far. The hare stopped for a nap in the middle of the race because he was confident that the tortoise could not follow him. The tortoise kept walking and walking all the way through the end. When the hare woke up, he ran quickly to the finish line but it was too late. The tortoise was already there as the winner.

Moral of the story : Slow and steady wins the race.

ช้าวันหนึ่ง ขณะที่แม่ไก่กำลังเดินคุ้ยเขี่ยหาอาหารที่ลานหน้าบ้านของชาวนาอยู่นั้นเอง มันก็เหลือบไปเห็นพลอยเม็ดงามเม็ดหนึ่งส่องประกายระยิบระยับอยู่บนพื้นดิน แม่ไก่ได้แต่คิดในใจว่า "ถ้าชาวนาได้มาพบพลอยเม็ดงามเม็ดนี้ เขาคงจะดีใจมาก แต่สำหรับเราแล้ว ข้าวเปลือก 1 เมล็ด ยังมีค่ากว่าพลอยเม็ดนี้ตั้งมากมาย" แล้วมันก็เดินผ่านพลอยเม็ดนั้นไป

One morning, a cock was busily scratching for food in font of a farmer's house. He unexpectedly a glittery jewel on the floor. He mumbled to himself "If the farmer was the one who found this precious stone, he would be really happy. Well, it's nothing for me. I would rather have a tiny grain than this jewel." Then, the cock walk away and kept scratching for food.

Moral of the story : What is a treasure to one may be worthless to another.

ชาวนาผู้แก่ชราคนหนึ่งกำลังป่วยหนัก จึงเรียกให้ลูกชายมาพบเพื่อมอบมรดกให้ "ในที่ดินของพ่อมีทรัพย์สมบัติซ่อนอยู่ เจ้าจงตั้งใจขุดหามันเถิด แล้วเจ้าจะร่ำรวย" หลังจากชาวนาชราเสียชีวิตลง ลูกชายจึงได้ขุดหาสมบัติ พร้อมกับปลูกข้าวไปด้วย หลายเดือนผ่านไป เขาก็ยังหาสมบัติไม่พบ แต่ข้าวที่เขาปลูกนั้นได้ผลดี เขจึงขุดหาสมบัติและปลูกข้าวต่อไป
หลายฤดูกาลผ่านไป เขาก็ยังหาสมบัติไม่พบ แต่เขากลับได้เงินจากการขายข้าวอย่างมากมาย เขาจึงคิดได้ว่า "นี่คงจะเป็นสมบัติที่พ่อบอกไว้แน่ๆ" ตั้งแต่นั้นมาเขาก็ตั้งใจเพาะปลูกและร่ำรวยอย่างที่พ่อเขาบอกไว้

One day an old farmer who was so sick and about to die called his son to his bedside and said " My dear son, there is treasure lay hidden somewhere in our field. Dig it out and when you find it, you will be rich." After the death of the dad, the son started digging for the treasure. At some time, he also grew rice in the field. Months afterwards, he did not see any treasure but the rice he grew began growing and strong.
Season after season, he still could hot find the treasure but he made a lot money from selling rice. It made him understand that the real treasure came from the work he put into the field.

Moral of the story : Hard work brings its own reward.

เจ้าจิ้งจอกน้อยแอบย่องออกไปล่าเหยื่อโดยลำพัง เมื่อมันได้นกกระทาตัวอ้วนกลับมา มันจึงพูดกับพ่อว่า "ผมออกล่าได้เอง โดยไม่ต้องมีพ่อไปด้วยเลย" ตั้งแต่นั้นมามันจึงไม่ฟังคำสั่งสอนของพ่อ
คืนหนึ่ง จิ้งจอกน้อยแอบย่องตามพ่อที่กำลังออกหาอาหาร เมื่อเดินเข้าไปใกล้บ้านของชาวนา พ่อจิ้งจอกก็รีบวิ่งไปอีกทาง แต่จิ้งจอกน้อยมองเห็นไก่อยู่ที่ลานยุ้งข้าวของชาวนา มันคิดในใจว่า "พ่อคงแก่จนมองไม่เห็นไก่เสียแล้ว" จากนั้นมันก็วิ่งเข้าไปตระครุบไก้ทันที ปั๊บ! แล้วมันก็ถูกกับดักจับตัวเข้าจนได้ มันจึงได้แต่คิดในใจว่า "พ่อมองเห็นกับดัก แต่ฉันมองไม่เห็น"

One day a little fox went for a hunt by himself, and he got a big quail home. "I can go hunting without you, dad" The little fox said to his dad. Since then, the little fox did not listen to hid dad. One night, the little fox sneaked out and follow his dad when he was out for the hunt. When they both were close to the farmer's house, the dad run to the other way. On the other hand, the little fox run to the house because he saw a chicken in the framer's barnyard. He thought "Dad is probably too old to see the chicken" After that, he ran to the barnyard and snapped at the chicken. He was suddenly caught in the framer's trap. Then he realized that his dad was not too old to see the chicken, but he saw the trap.

Moral of the story : People have more experience is good teacher.

ชายผู้หนึ่งมักจะสวดอ้อนวอนต่อรูปบูชาไม้ ซึ่งเขาได้รับตกทอดมาจากบิดาอยู่เสมอๆ เพื่ออ้อนวอนให้เทพเจ้าประทานพรประทานความโชคดีแก่ตน แต่โชคชะตาของเขาก็มิได้เปลี่ยนแปลงดีขึ้นแต่ประการใด เขาสวดอ้อนวอนวันแล้ววันเล่า แต่เขาก็ยังคงเป็นคนอับโชคอยู่ร่ำไป วันหนึ่งด้วยความเดือดดาลเป็นที่สุด เขาได้ย่างสามขุมเข้าไปหาเทพเจ้าไม้ของเขา แล้วก็เอาท่อนไม้หวดอย่างแรงเพียงครั้งเดียวเท่านั้น ก็ทำให้มันล้มลงมาจากฐานที่ตั้ง รูปบูชานั้นก็แตกหักออกเป็นสองท่อน เขาเห็นอะไรรึ? มีเงินเหรียญจำนวนมากมาย ปลิวว่อนไปทั่วบริเวณนั้น

In The old days, men used to worship stocks and stones and idols, and prayed to them to give them luck.

It happened that, a man had often prayed to a wooden idol he received from his father, but his luck never seemed to change.. He prayed and he prayed, but still he remained as unlucky as ever. One day in the greatest rage. He went to the Wooden God, and with one blow swept it down from its pedestal. The idol broke in two, and what did he see? An immense number of coins flying all over the place.

6.เด็กเลี้ยงแกะ (The Shepherd Boy)

เด็กเลี้ยงแกะคนหนึ่งมีนิสัยชอบโกหก วันหนึ่งเขาได้นึกสนุก จึงแกล้งตะโกนดังลั่นว่า "ช่วยด้วย! ช่วยด้วย! หมาป่ามากินแกะของผม" ชาวบ้านเมื่อได้ยินต่างรีบมาช่วยเด็กเลี้ยงแกะ แต่เมื่อมาถึงกลับไม่เจอหมาป่าเลยสักตัว เห็นเพียงเด็กเลี้ยงแกะหัวเราะชอบใจที่หลอกคนอื่นได้ แล้วอยู่มาวันหนึ่ง หมาป่าก็มาไล่จับแกะของเขากินจริงๆ เด็กเลี้ยงแกะรีบตะโกนขอความช่วยเหลือ แต่ไม่มีใครมาช่วยเขาเลยเพราะคิดว่าเขาโกหกเหมือนอย่างเคน ที่สุดแกะทั้งฝูงจึงถูกหมาป่าจับกินจนหมด

There was once a young shepherd boy who repeatedly lied the other to amuse himself. One day he wanted to have fun so he called out "Wolf Wolf, help me!" The villagers came out to help him, but was no wolf, The boy laughed at them happily.

But stortly after this, the wolf truly appeared and attacked his sheep. The shepherd boy cried out of help louder than before, but this time nobody came to help him. And finally, the wolf ate up his and then slipped away in the forest.

Moral of the story : A liar's truth is seldom believed.

ณ ริมบึงน้ำแห่งหนึ่ง มีต้นโอ๊คต้นใหญ่ขึ้นอยู่ริมฝั่ง และมีต้นอ้อขึ้นอยู่ริมน้ำ เมื่อลมพัดมา ต้นอ้อก็ไหวเอนไปตามลม ต้นโอ๊คเห็นเช่นนั้นจึงพูดขึ้นว่า "แค่ลมพัดเบาๆ เจ้าก็โอนเอนเสียแล้ว ช่างไม่มีความกล้าหาญเอาเสียเลย ไม่เหมือนข้า ตั้งตรงไม่หวั่นไหวต่ออะไรทั้งนั้น"
ในคืนนั้นเอง ก็เกิดพายุพัดรุนแรงมาก ต้นโอ๊คพยายามยืนต้านพายุแต่ก็ต้านไม่ไหว จึงหักโค่นลง ส่วนต้นอ้อนั้นเอนลู่ตามแรงพายุ และเมื่อพายุผ่านไป ต้นอ้อก็กลับชูใบขึ้นเช่นเดิม

By the riverbank, there were a very large oak stood near some reeds. When the wind blew, the reeds bowed low in the wind. The oak said "You are so weak, my friend. Only the light breeze, you couldn't even stand up." " Unlike, I'm not scared of anything. I stand upright when the wind blows" the oak continued.
On the night, the great storm came and the oak fought against the storm. Afttrr all his effort, he still could not stand against the wind. Finally, the oak fell but the reeds were survived.

Moral of the story : It is better to be bend than to be broken.

ชายสองคนเป็นเพื่อนรักกัน วันหนึ่งทั้งสองเดินมาเจอขวานเล่มหนึ่งตกอยู่ “ข้าเจอมันก่อน ขวานเล่มนี้ต้องเป็นของข้า” ชายคนหนึ่งพูดขึ้น แล้วหยิบขวานมาถือไว้ “เราเจอมันพร้อมกัน ขวานจะเป็นของเจ้าคนเดียวได้อย่างไร” ในขณะนั้นเอง เจ้าของขวานก็เดินมาเห็นเข้า “ช่วยด้วย! มีคนขโมยขวานของข้า” ชายถือขวานตกใจ “แย่แล้วพวกเราจะทำอย่างไรกันดี” เพื่อนรักของเขาจึงพูดขึ้นว่า “อย่าพูดว่าพวกเรา เพราะข้าไม่ได้เกี่ยวอะไรด้วยเลย”

One day two men were best friends found an axe the path. One of them picked up the axe from the floor and said “I found it first. It is mine.” “We found it. Don’t say you found it” replied the other man. Soon, the owner of the axe came and shouted “Help Help!! Someone stole my axe.” The man who held the axe was frightened and said “What should we do?” His friend said “Do not say 'we', because I was not involved with this.”

One humid day in the summer, a lion and a goat were dying of thirst. Once they found a puddle, they began fighting for the water. They fought and became really tired. After a battle, they laid down for a rest. And then the lion saw vultures were flying circle around in the sky. “I think we better compromise and share the water or we keep fighting until one loses and becomes their food.” said the lion. The goat agreed with the lion, and at the end they share water to drink.

วันหนึ่งชาวนาซื้อห่านมาตัวหนึ่ง วันต่อมาห่านตัวนั้นออกไข่ทองคำมาหนึ่งฟอง ชาวนาดีใจมาก เขาเฝ้ารอเก็บไข่ทองคำจากห่านทุกวัน ห่านก็ออกไข่ทองคำให้เขาทุกวัน วันละหนึ่งฟองจนชาวนามีฐานะร่ำรวย แต่ชาวนาอยากได้ไข่ทองคำวันละหลาย ๆฟอง เขาคิดไปเองว่า ในตัวของห่านต้องมีไข่ทองคำอยู่หลายฟองแน่ๆ เขาจึงรีบผ่าท้องของห่านตัวนั้นดู แต่เขาก็ต้องเสียใจเพราะในท้องของห่านไม่มีไข่ทองคำเลยสักฟองเดียว

One day a farmer took a goose back to his house, and the next day he found that the goose he bought laid a golden egg. He was so happy. He waited and waited for the goose to lay him the egg again, and of course the same thing happened every day. Each day the goose laid one golden egg. As the farmer grew greedy,he wanted more than one egg a day. And he thought there must be more golden eggs inside the goose’s body, so he decided to kill the goose and opened its tummy. Unfortunately.He was so sad as there was not even one golden egg inside the goose.

Moral of the story : Greed oft o'er reaches itself.

11.หมาจิ้งจอกกับไก่บ้าน (The Fox and The Cock)

หมาจิ้งจอกตัวหนึ่งอยากกินไก่บ้าน มันจึงหลอกให้ไก่บ้านเผลอ “เจ้าไก่ เสียงขันของเจ้าไพเราะเหมือนไก่ตัวอื่นหรือไม่” ไก่บ้านหลงกลจึงรีบหลับตาแล้วโก่งคอขันทันที เอ้กอีเอ้กเอ้ก หมาจิ้งจอกได้โอกาสก็งับคอไก่แล้ววิ่งหนี เมื่อชาวนาเห็นเข้าก็ตะโกนร้องให้ชาวบ้านช่วยไก่ ไก่บ้านจึงหลอกให้หมาจิ้งจอกร้องบอกชาวบ้านว่า ไก่ตัวนี้ไม่ได้เป็นของชาวนา หมาจิ้งจอกหลงกลจึงรีบอ้าปากร้องบอกชาวบ้าน ไก่บ้านได้โอกาสก็รีบบินหนีออกจากปากของหมาจิ้งจอก หมาจิ้งจอกได้แค่เสียดายในความเขลาของตน

A fox saw a cock he planned to end him. “I wonder if your crowing is as beautiful as the others?” said the fox. After the cock heard the fox, he shut his eyes and began to crow for the fox. Suddenly, the fox jumped to the cock, held his neck and ran away really fast. When the farmer saw the fox took the cock, he cried out for help. The cock played tricked to the fox. He said “Hey fox, tell them I’m yours, not the farmer, so that they will stop chasing you.” The fox believed in his trick and opened his mouth to shout as the cock said. Suddenly, the cock was free from his mouth and flew away.

There was a dog running cross the bridge with a piece of meat in his mouth. While he was on the bridge, he looked down and saw another dog with larger piece of meat. He immediately let go of his own, and fiercely barked and attacked another dog to get that larger piece. But as he opened his mouth, his own meat was dropped into the water. So he lost both, but it was too late for him to realize that what he saw was his own shadow reflected in the water.

Moral of the story : Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the

shadow.

แกะฝูงหนึ่งอาศัยอยู่กินอย่างสงบสุขมานาน เพราะพวกมันมีหมาเลี้ยงแกะคอยดูแล วันหนึ่งหมาป่าฝูงหนึ่งคิดจะกินแกะ จึงคิดอุบายส่งตัวแทนไปเจรจากับฝูงแกะ “เรามาเป็นเพื่อนกันเถอะ ฝ่ายข้าจะส่งลูกหมาป่ามาให้พวกเจ้าเพื่อรับรองในความปลอดภัย ส่วนพวกเจ้าก็ส่งหมาเลี้ยงแกะมาให้พวกข้า” ฝูงแกะหลงเชื่อจึงส่งหมาเลี้ยงแกะไปให้หมาป่า และแล้ว “เจ้าโง่พวกข้าหรือจะเป็นเพื่อนกับพวกเจ้า พวกเจ้าเป็นอาหารของข้าต่างหากล่ะ” พูดจบฝูงหมาป่าก็เข้าไล่ขย้ำกินแกะจนหมด

There was a flock of sheep living peacefully for a long time as they had a sheepdog guarded them all. One day, the wolves planned to eat the sheep. Thus they made up their mind to sent ambassador to negotiate with the flock of sheep. “I think you and me can be friends. What’s about if I send one of us to protect your safety, and you send your sheepdog to us?” Said the wolf. The sheep fell for a trick, so they send the sheepdog to the wolves. “Haha, Dumb sheep! Do you really think that we want to be your friends? You are going to be our food.”said the wolf. End of his words, all the wolves ate up the sheep.

Moral of the story : Bad people never be a good friend.

15.หมาจิ้งจอกกับแพะ (The Fox and The Goat)

หมาจิ้งจอกตัวหนึ่งเดินกระหายน้ำ จนมาพบบ่อน้ำแห่งหนึ่งเข้า ด้วยความรีบร้อนจึงลื่นตกลงไปในบ่อน้ำ และไม่สามารถปีนขึ้นมาได้ แพะตัวหนึ่งเดินผ่านมาก็สงสัยจึงถามว่า “เจ้าลงไปทำอะไรในบ่อน้ำเหรอ” เจ้าหมาจิ้งจอกจึงหลอกแพะว่า “น้ำในบ่อนี้เป็นน้ำวิเศษ เจ้าลงมากินด้วยกันสิ” เจ้าแพะหลงเชื่อจึงรีบกระโดดลงไป หมาจิ้งจอกได้โอกาสจึงกระโดดเหยียบหัวแพะขึ้นจากบ่อได้ แล้วมันก็เยาะเย้ยแพะว่า “ฮ่า ฮ่า ฮ่า หาทางขึ้นจากบ่อเองแล้วกันนะ เจ้าแพะโง่”

เรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า : ควรคิดไตร่ตรองก่อนเชื่อคำพูดของผู้อื่น

There was a thirsty fox looking for water to drink. Once he found a well, he rushed to it and fell into the deep well. He could not find the way to get out. Soon, a goat came by. “What are you doing in there?” asked the goat. “It’s the wonderful tasting water I’ve ever had. You must come down here and try.” replied the fox with a plan.The goat believed and was interested in what the fox said, so he jumped down into the well. When the goat was in there, the fox suddenly climbed on to the goat’s head and got out of the well. “Ha Ha Ha foolish goat, find the way out by yourself.” said the fox.

Moral of the story : Never trust the advice of a man in difficulties.
